If you have ventured into this area of the website, this is probably your first pregnancy. Most of us can’t wait to see the evidence that a new life is growing in our bodies, when pregnancy is confirmed. It doesn’t take long before the changes start to happen and the question of what to wear arises. The following commonly asked questions take some of the confusion out of your first shopping trips for maternity clothing. Enjoy the moment.
How soon should I buy/wear maternity clothing?
As every woman’s experience is quite different, it is hard to compare your pregnancy to anyone else. Your bust or waist may grow faster than your best friend’s or your sister’s. The most important factor is comfort. Constrictive clothing just doesn’t feel good, especially if you are experiencing morning sickness. Many women start wearing the first pieces of maternity clothing around three months. Remember there is nothing pretty or sexy about pants that won’t stay up at the waist.
Why do I need maternity clothing?
Maternity clothing is designed to “grow” in the areas that your body will see the most changes. Your bust will likely become at least one size larger, while your waistline could go from 28” to 40”! It’s Amazing! Meanwhile, the rest of you will remain relatively the same. If you try to upsize in your favorite non-maternity labels you will be disappointed in the sloppy shoulder and hip line that result. This will not reflect the modern body trends of regular wear. Your body will change weekly and only well designed maternity wear will keep pace with your changing shape. Typically maternity clothes from mall or discount stores are poor quality and will not keep pace. When you buy the right size it should last through out your entire pregnancy with normal weight gain.
